Building on its strong foundation across all stages of schooling, The Somaiya School proudly introduced its Senior Secondary Section in the academic year 2019–20, marking a significant milestone in its journey of educational excellence. Committed to delivering quality education at every level, the school continues to uphold its vision of nurturing well-rounded, future-ready learners.
At TSS, education extends beyond academics. Equal emphasis is placed on extracurricular activities, including sports, dance, music, and the performing arts, fostering the holistic development of each student. Learners have access not only to the school’s well-equipped facilities but also to the extensive infrastructure and resources available across the Somaiya Vidyavihar University campus.

The academic experience is enriched through guest lectures, expert-led sessions, inter-school competitions, and collaborative learning opportunities. We believe that learning is most impactful when it is experiential. Field trips, educational tours, and visits are integrated into the curriculum, along with Sports Day, cultural events, and other celebrations that enhance student engagement and build community spirit. The Senior Secondary Section offers a thoughtfully curated selection of subjects across the Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, allowing students to pursue their academic interests while developing critical thinking, creativity, and real-world skills.
Science
Students opting for the Science stream study English, Physics, and Chemistry as core compulsory subjects. In addition, they may choose from a range of elective subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Psychology, Applied Mathematics, Music, Painting, Physical Education, Artificial Intelligence etc. among others, to tailor their academic pathway.
To further support individual interests and holistic development, students are encouraged to select a sixth subject, which may lie outside the traditional Science stream. This optional subject provides an opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary learning and explore areas that are personally meaningful or practically relevant in real-world contexts.
This structure ensures that students are well-prepared not only for board examinations but also for diverse higher education pathways and evolving professional landscapes.
Commerce
In addition to the core subjects generally chosen by Commerce students – English, Business Studies, Economics, and Accountancy – students have the opportunity to further tailor their subject combination by selecting from a range of elective subjects. These may include Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Informatics Practices, Entrepreneurship, Psychology, or any other CBSE-approved subjects available at the school.
To promote interdisciplinary thinking and personal interest, students also have the option to select a sixth subject from a broad spectrum of academic or skill-based courses, even if it lies outside the core Commerce stream. This allows for greater academic flexibility and relevance to real-world applications.
Our curriculum is designed to develop analytical skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial thinking, while preparing students for professional courses in business, economics, law, and management.
ARTS/Humanities
The Somaiya School offers a wide-ranging and flexible curriculum that nurtures critical thinking, empathy, creativity, and a deep understanding of society, culture, and human behaviour.
Students study English as a compulsory subject, and may choose their core subjects from History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, and other approved disciplines. Depending on interest and aptitude, they may also opt for subjects such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Informatics Practices, Hindi, Sanskrit,Painting, Bharatnatyam etc.
In addition, students have the freedom to select a sixth subject based on their personal interests, which may not be directly linked to the Humanities stream but adds value to their overall learning experience and future goals.
This diverse and well-rounded curriculum prepares students for a broad range of higher education options in liberal arts, social sciences, law, psychology, media, civil services, and more.
Assessment
Assessments aim to build conceptual clarity, application of knowledge, analytical thinking, and exam readiness in our students.
The academic year is divided into two terms, with a combination of internal assessments and end-of-term examinations, including the Pre-Board and Board examinations in Grade 12. Assessments are designed to evaluate both theoretical understanding and practical application of concepts across all subject areas.
Key Features of the Assessment Process:
Grade 11
Students in Grade 11 appear for four Periodic Assessments across the academic year. In addition, regular class tests, quizzes, and assignments are conducted to promote continuous engagement and reinforce learning.
Practical and Internal Assessments:
Subjects comprise of both theoretical and practical/project components, which vary depending on the subject. These assessments evaluate practical skills, project execution, lab work, and viva voce. Integrated into the curriculum, these activities assess a range of skills such as research, creativity, collaboration, and the practical application of academic knowledge.
Internal assessment is also carried out for co-scholastic areas based on students’ active participation throughout the year in various activities and events, including:
- General Studies
- Work Education / SEWA (Crowd funding, beach clean-up)
- Health and Physical Education
Grade 12 – Pre-Board Examinations:
Pre-Board exams mirror the format and conditions of the CBSE Board Examination. They serve as a key checkpoint to gauge readiness and identify areas that require further attention.
Students receive structured feedback after each assessment, and academic support is provided through remedial classes, mentoring sessions, and career guidance programs to help them achieve their academic and professional goals.
Our assessment practices aim not only to prepare students for the CBSE Board Examinations but also to cultivate self-discipline, resilience, and a deeper understanding of their chosen stream
